Coral Reefs: Restoration & Resilience – Cayman Coral Nursery Project
Sea of Change is extremely excited to have donated the funds, materials, training and resources to Cayman Islands companies who were issued permits by the Cayman Islands Department of
Environment to begin coral nurseries to grow coral. Four genotypes of elkhorn coral and five genotypes of staghorn coral from a total of five different locations were planted in Grand Cayman.
Most of the staghorn coral came from water that was about 50’ deep, and most of the elkhorn coral came out of about 30’ of water. The nurseries are located in about 20 feet of water and should
recover nicely within a month.
Sea of Change Foundation would like to thank Ken Nedimyer and Patti Gross for their hard work and dedication to the project.
